Foundation to launch official Dinagyang beat-A A +A

THE official Iloilo Dinagyang beat will be launched on January 24, 2014 with a salvo of a thousand drums for some 30 minutes around the Arroyo Fountain in this city.
City tourism officer Benito Jimena said the beat was designed to upbeat the three-day non-stop celebration of Dinagyang Festival events from January 24 to 26.
Jimena said that drummers of 10 contesting ati-atihan tribes will join in the drumbeats to be supported by drummers of 17 school-based groups participating the 2014 Tambor, Trumpa, Martsa, Musika competition.
The beat of a thousand drums will start before the parade of Tambor, Trumpa, Martsa, Musika drum and bugle corps and will reverberate in the city as Dinagyang braces for festival highlights attracting more 1.2-million revelers.
City schools superintendent Dr. Nelly Valerio said that there are 12 contenders from elementary schools and five secondary schools in the Tambor Trumpa Martsa Musika competition.
The 12 elementary school contenders include drum and bugle corps of Sambag Elem School, Jaro I Elem School, Jaro II Elem School, Iloilo Central Elem School, La Paz I Elem School, Sinamay Elem School in Alimodian, San Miguel Central School in Jordan, Guimaras, Cubay Elem School, Dingle Central Elem School, Arevalo Elem School, A Montes Elem School and Alimodian Central Elem School.
The five high school contenders are the dingle National High School, Iloilo City National High School, Ajuy National High School, Ramon Avanceña National High School and Jalandoni Memorial National High School.
Valerio said the parade route will start from the capitol up to the Freedom Grandstand for the performance. Prizes include P25,000 cash for the fish prize in both categories, P20,000 for the second, P16,000 for the third and P5,000 each to participating school groups.
