All set for Iloilo Paraw Regatta on Sunday

THE country’s first biggest sea sports and competition held at the Iloilo Strait will take off on Sunday, February 23, at the city’s Villa Beach area.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the 42nd Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival will be participated by some 200 sailboats divided in three categories.

The competition aims to test the endurance and skills of local sailors while manning a sailboat stirred by the wind along the 33.3-kilometer race course.

Cash prizes, trophies and certificates will be awarded to the winners and all finishers. The race will start at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Other activities include sports events such as deep sea fishing competition, rapid chess tournament, national beach ultimate Frisbee exhibition, national invitational women’s beach volleyball, men’s beach football, search for Miss Iloilo Paraw Regatta competition, pinta layag painting competition, slalom, photo contest, miniature paraw making contest, seafood festival, pintawo body painting contest, and entertainment presentations.

The paraw regatta in Iloilo City is the first biggest competition in terms of participants in the entire country. Celebrating its 42nd year of existence, the Iloilo regatta is one of the biggest tourism attractions of Iloilo. (Sunnex)
