THE completion of the Iloilo Convention Center is slated six months before the Asia Pacific Economic Council (Apec) conference in Iloilo City in October 2015.

Senate President Franklin M. Drilon, in a radio interview on Wednesday, said the construction of the convention center is way ahead of schedule and the city will have enough time to prepare and host the international meetings on Transportation and Food Security concerns.

Drilon said the P700-million convention center will be operated and managed by a private corporation through a public bidding facilitated by the Tourism Infrastructure Enhancement Zone Authority (Tieza) of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The construction started last January 2014 and Tieza hoped to finish it by April 2015, he said.

The center, which is being constructed by by Hilmarcs Construction Corp., will be designed with Ilonggo features such as the paraw sailboats and Dinagyang Festival.

Hilmarcs Construction Corp. has one year and six months period to construct the center.
