Tourist arrival in W. Visayas surpasses 2013 target-A A +A

THE Western Visayas Region continues to attract more tourists, as tourist arrival has surpassed its target in 2013.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Helen Catalbas said a partial total of 3,322,433 arrivals have been reported for Western Visayas in 2013 from its six provinces and two urbanized cities.
The figure shows that Western Visayas already surpassed the 3,192,328 target.
Crowd drawer are still the tourism crown jewel Boracay Island in northern Aklan and the provinces and cities coming up with their own natural or man-made tourism attractions.
The DOT is launching a regional tourism campaign, “Experience Western Visayas First!,” on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Iloilo City Freedom Grandstand.
Local government units, private sectors, the academe and special guests coming from all over the region will be joining the event.
Catalbas said the grand launching of the tourism campaign aims to encourage more tourists for a sustainable development of the region’s tourism industry.
A Tourism Fair is also set for the promotion of the local products and tourist attractions within the region on the same day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Calle Real/J.M. Basa Street.
Participating provinces are Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental and the cities of Bacolod and Iloilo.
