THE province of Iloilo has received P500,000 as financial aid for its “Adopt a fisherman” project to help province’s bid to restore the livelihood of the fishermen in northern Iloilo.
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr., who is the chairman of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP), said the donation was given when he attended the Iloilo Means Business forum in Makati City on Wednesday, March 12.
Defensor said the donation will help the province to restore the livelihood of more than 9,000 fishermen, whose boats were destroyed during the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda in November 2013.
The donation will also be added to the funds intended for “Adopt a fisherman” project, Defensor said.
The Province of Negros Oriental also donated P1 million to Iloilo province as financial aid for Yolanda survivors.
The province has, so far, received almost P7-million worth of donations from various individuals, groups, and local government units (LGUS) through a trust fund.
Earlier, the province posted a notice of bidding for the procurement of materials for the building of motorized bancas.
Since the donations were channeled through the province, a public competitive bidding is required to select a qualified contractor or supplier.
Defensor said there are also a lot of private groups and individuals who directly donated motorized bancas to fishermen in northern Iloilo’s coastal towns. (PIO)
