Wednesday, March 19, 2014
ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is asking for three months more to finish all improvements of seven public markets and a slaughterhouse in the city as Iloilo braces for the expansion and enhancement of the facilities.
Mabilog said he is waiting for the market committee recommendations regarding the improvement of services at the Iloilo terminal market as an initial step to start full rehabilitation and improvement including internal management by the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO).
The committee has started its investigation of the terminal market management and the slaughterhouse at Tacas, Jaro district and will submit its recommendations to Mabilog before the end of March.
Mabilog said the market is eyed to be competitive to earn revenue for the city and the management must be orderly with no venue for unscrupulous persons to transact business.
Personnel of the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), under the Department of Agriculture, inspected the city slaughterhouse last week to see the ongoing improvements before the abattoir was turned over to the City Government.
