ILOILO City Councilor Jason Gonzales has proposed for an education summit to discuss on the low score of the Iloilo City Division of Schools in the 2013 National Achievement Test (NAT).

Gonzales said the 2013 NAT score is a disappointment for all stakeholders, as the scores showed very low achievement of Grade 3 and Grade 6 elementary levels and 4th year students in the secondary level of both public and private schools in the city.

The NAT 2012-2013 result showed Iloilo City had the lowest scores compared to 17 other schools divisions in Western Visayas.

The result showed Grade 3 pupils’ mean percentage scores was 39.89 percent, while the Grade 6 pupils notched 52.89 percent. Fourth year high school students got 49.74 mean percentage scores.

Meanwhile, the City Council has approved a resolution filed by Gonzales on Tuesday, March 25, asking all city schools to submit the 2013 NAT results to the City Council as approved by the Department of Education.

School principals had refused to release the NAT scores and pointed to the Education department as the sole approving authority.

Gonzales said the city must have information for which the City Government may start helping and elevating the quality of education in the city.

The City Government is allotting more than P100-million fund per year for the Iloilo City School Board. (LCP)
