Bantay Dagat nets 33 illegal fishers

THE Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force recently arrested 33 illegal fishermen in northern Iloilo.

The fishermen were onboard six fishing boats namely, Michel, Triple-J 2, JS1, JS2, AJ, and Jacent Cris.

Fishing boat F/B Michel, owned by Samuel Dedalis of Barangay Logingot, Estancia, and was manned by four crew, was caught engaging in trawl fishing off the island of Culebra in Concepcion.

F/B Triple-J 2 (with eight crew), owned by Rommel Agravante of Alinsolong, Batad, was caught using “hulbot-hulbot” five kilometers off Sicogon Island in Carles.

Motorboats JS-1, JS-2, AJ, and Jacent Cris, were also caught engaging in trawl fishing off Baliguian Island in Concepcion.

Each motorboat has five crew and all, except for Jacent Cris, were residents of Victorias City, Negros Occidental. Those in Jacent Cris were residents of Barangay Polo-Piña, Concepcion.

The task force also reported that they spotted dynamite fishers 664 meters from the shoreline of Ginticdan, Carles last week, but they failed to apprehend them.

The dynamite fishers abandoned their motorboat and fled towards Barangay Bito-on, Carles.

The fishing boats and all their paraphernalia were seized and at the custody of the taskforce.

The arrested fishermen were detained at the lock-up cell of the municipalities concerned. (PIO)
