City, DPWH to coordinate on road projects-A A +A
Tuesday, April 29, 2014
OFFICIALS of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have extended their apology and assurance of cooperation to City Government officials in the implementation of public work projects in Iloilo City.
DPWH Regional Director Edilberto Tayao, accompanied by city district engineer Rodney Gustilo, met with the city officials to explain on the uprooting of trees along Gen Luna St. in the city.
The Iloilo City Council has invited Tayao and other DPWH officials to a meeting today regarding the cutting of trees at the center island along Gen. Luna highway. Read more here.
Tayao said the trees affected by the road widening at Gen Luna will have to be uprooted since these will destroy the roads. The reduced center island will have to be planted with Royal Palms as uniform trees planted at the diversion road and Esplanade II.
The City Council had earlier passed a resolution calling the DPWH to stop the road project, which uprooted a number of trees along Gen. Luna in Iloilo City.
The misunderstanding reached a conclusion on Tuesday, April 29, with DPWH assurance to resume work by Monday, May 5, at the road widening project along Gen Luna and at the Benigno Aquino Jr. diversion road.
The road widening project at Gen Luna covers 2.7 meters per lane at both sides of the road that reduces the center island at one meter for trees, plants and electric posts.
All the road widening projects and planting of Royal Palms from the capitol up to Arevalo district are in time for the city hosting of the APEC conference in 2015, Tayao said.
