No final bidder yet for central market project-A A +A
Monday, May 5, 2014
ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that there is no final bidder yet for the central public market project.
“There is no final bidder and the interested one, SM Prime Holdings, lacks the incorporation papers for it to be endorsed to the Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC),” Mabilog said.
In a summit on March 12, 2014 held at Intercontinental Manila, SM Investment Corp. Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Jose T. Sio declared unspecified billions of pesos worth of additional investments in the city in the next three years.
The same business summit also netted P31.48-billion investment pledges from seven private investors on top of the P4.1 billion infrastructure pledge from the government’s Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in 2014.
Mabilog said the central public market, a major component of the central business district (CBD) project, is not yet awarded to any bidder.
The city mayor said that under the plan, the central market will be constructed in five stories separating the wet and dry goods sections and other stores for high-end products and services.
He said there is an urgent need to instill reforms at the market to be implemented by the market committee headed by city administrator Norlito Bautista in his behalf.
The existing vendors need not worry if the project takes off since they will be provided spaces for their goods and services, the city mayor assured. (Lydia C. Pendon)
