Water supplier open on reducing bill at MIWD

THE major bulk water supplier of the Metro Iloilo Water District is reportedly amenable to reduce its water billing and will only charge payment of some P15 million for water delivered not based on a “take or pay” contract with the water district.

FloWater Resources Inc. chaired by Ilonggo businessman Rogelio Florete Sr. is charging MIWD with P111 million for payment of contracted water in the last 15 months at 15,000 cubic meters delivered per day.

However, the delivery was only 5,000 to 6,000 cubic meters per day because of water pipe constraint from its injection point in Leganes town.

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor and Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog have mediated a dialogue between the two contending parties to settle the issue that led to the reduction of billing charges.

Also, the Office of Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC) advised MIWD and the supplier to settle technical problems of the bulk water supply contract. While FloWater has the capability to deliver the contracted water volume, it cannot do so for the problem lies at the injection point that cannot accommodate the volume of water being delivered.

In its opinion dated May 6, 2014, OGCC faulted both parties but have no liability and that any case to be filed by one party against another will not prosper in court.

The OGCC further said to look for plausible solution to the existing problem including MIWD to put up another injection point in Leganes to be connected to Ungka Jaro in Iloilo City.
