SENATE President Franklin Drilon has assured Ilonggos, especially in the city and province of Iloilo, of more development projects and infrastructures before the term of President Benigno Aquino III expires in 2016.

Drilon, who was in Iloilo City on Friday (September 5), led the inauguration of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) P230-million roll on-roll off (roro) facility and passenger terminal building in Barangay Progreso, Lapuz.

He said it is only now that Ilonggos have substantial share of infrastructures long denied for them in the past administrations.

Iloilo City is a recipient of more than P4 billion government infrastructure projects consisting of better and wider roads, bridges, drainage system, rehabilitation of the Iloilo River, decent housing for informal settlers, Iloilo international airport expansion, and the soon-to-be-completed Iloilo International Convention Center, among others.

Citing the critical role played by the PPA for development of Iloilo, the Senate President said a roro facility is being upgraded in the Port of Dumangas, Iloilo to become an alternate port of Iloilo.

Other proposed projects for next year until the second quarter of 2016 include a bridge connecting Lapuz especially the new river port for roro and fast-crafts, the building of Esplanade III from the Provincial Capitol to PPP Parola and the ferry terminal at the Parola port.

Drilon admitted that he is only asking the Ilonggos to protect and keep the facilities clean. The Muelle Loney side abandoned by the fast-crafts and roro will be rehabilitated and developed to become a world-class tourist site facing the new river port across the Iloilo River.

Similarly, existing warehouses and storage areas by the Muelle Loney side may continue business as the street will be cleaned and rehabilitated.
