ONE hundred nineteen public schools in 32 municipalities in Iloilo received financial assistance from the Provincial Government on Wednesday, February 15.
The financial assistance, totaling P33.874,944.73, ranges from P60,000 to P1,000,000 depending on the project proposal submitted by the recipient schools.
Provincial School Board (PSB) secretary Jerry Bionat said the projects include: repair of school buildings (P16,495,000), construction of school buildings (P3,909,736), construction of school facilities such as stage, comfort rooms, gymnasium/covered court, perimeter fence, water and drainage systems, slope protection and other school facilities (P12,820,208.73), Procurement of school equipment like projector, computer set, copier and other school equipment (P670,000).
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. led the distribution of checks to the principals or head teachers of the recipient schools. He was joined by Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, and board members Renee Valencia, Emmanuel Gallar, and Liecel Mondejar-Seville.
Defensor said that there are still many pending requests for various school projects in his office but he assured that the requests would be granted as long as the school officials present a program of work and that the funds are available.
The governor assured that the Special Education Fund of the province is used to help the schools improve the quality of education especially in the countryside.
Defensor said the PSB also supported the sports development programs of the Department of Education.
The board gave a financial aid of P4,785,000 for the Iloilo Schools Sports Council meet held last December 4 to 8, 2016.
The Provincial Government also allotted P11,268,240 for the province’s delegation to the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet held recently in the province of Antique. (PR)
