Espinosa assumes supervisory control over Iloilo City police

Friday, October 20, 2017

ACTING Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III is now exercising “general and operational control and supervision over the local police forces in the city.”

In a memorandum dated October 18 and sent to directors of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), National Police Commission (Napolcom), DILG Iloilo City, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Western Visayas, and the Iloilo City Police Office (Icpo), Espinosa cited Section 46 of Republic Act 7160 for assuming all power, duties and functions of the city mayor.

Espinosa took over the charge of Iloilo City last week of August since Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog went on two official trips abroad until he filed for a sick leave until end of this month.

Mabilog, however, was stripped of his operational control and supervision over the local police after his name was included in the narco-list of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Espinosa, in addition to his operational and supervisory control over the local police, can also appoint all official and employees whose salaries are from the city funds. (PNA)
