THE winning contractor in the P11.2-billion Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project (JRMP) Stage II, Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., already received their notice of award from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
Park Seon Won, representative of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., visited Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. at his office on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 to inform him of the good news. He was accompanied by Mayor Alex Centena of Calinog.
Park told Governor Defensor that they are now preparing the necessary documents and that they are planning to hold the groundbreaking ceremony by May this year.
The representative said they have 46 months to complete the project.
The governor was elated that the construction of the project would officially start soon. He said the people of the province have long been waiting for the start of the project.
JRMP II was pushed by Senate President Franklin Drilon during the time of President Benigno Aquino III.
Soon to be the biggest dam outside of Luzon, the JRMP II will provide year-round irrigation to 22,340 hectares under five existing irrigation systems and 9,500 hectares of new irrigation area covering 33 municipalities in the province.
It also has the capacity to generate 6.6 megawatts hydro-electric power and around 86,400 cubic meters per day of potable water for domestic use of nearby municipalities.
Earlier, Senator Drilon in a press conference in Iloilo City announced that the final contract signing with the winning contractor, Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., will happen this month.
The Iloilo Provincial Government has assisted the NIA in facilitating the initial stages of the project such as the conduct of clearing operations and dialog with the affected communities particularly the indigenous people.
The governor considers the realization of JRMP II as a “game changer” in the socio-economic condition of Iloilo province. (PR)
