ALL roads in the Visayan islands will lead Thursday, March 11, to Roxas City, Capiz for a four-day One Visayas summit with a central theme: “Heroes and Nationalism.”
Tourism Regional Director Edwin Trompeta said the activities will focus mostly on tourism issues and the role of the whole Visayas as a super region for tourism concerns, as conceived by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo three years ago.

The President launched then the Strong Republic Nautical Highway, linking all major Visayas islands to the rest of the country through the roll-on-roll-off (RO-RO) sea transport by bringing all the Visayan islands into one major tourism concern.
Trompeta said the activity is spearheaded by three Regional Development Councils (RDCs) of Western, Central and Eastern Visayas, Department of Tourism and Provincial Government of Capiz in putting up an integrated development on cultural heritage attractions of the Visayas tourism corridor.
RDC-Western Visayas is headed by Antique Governor Salvacion Perez, RDC-Central Visayas by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, and RDC-Eastern Visayas by Mayor Mel Sarmiento. All officials will be present in Roxas City for the start of the four-day activities.
The One Visayas concept that concentrates on “One People, One Destiny” will hopefully consolidate and translate all the efforts on tourism promotion and marketing in the provinces and cities of Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental and Guimaras in Western Visayas; Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor in Central Visayas; and Southern Leyte, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, and Leyte in Eastern Visayas.
Trompeta said the event will start on March 11 with an opening ceremony at Villareal Stadium, followed by the Parade of Festivals in the afternoon.
A cultural performance, film showing, concert at the park, food festival, reception for artists and fireworks will also be held in the afternoon.
The second to fourth day will feature workshop on storytelling, workshop on B-boying, exhibit of Visayas culture, arts and tourism assets, cooking demonstration of Visayan dishes, and outreach performance of cultural groups. (LCP)
