ILOILO Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has vowed to work double time and touch base with a multi-sectoral approach to fight the spread of dengue fever in the city.
The city mayor said he will be conducting a meeting within this week with representatives of the church, business, schools, barangays, health officials, and the media to conduct a comprehensive information advocacy against dengue fever, which had already claimed 10 lives in Iloilo City.

Treñas said there is an urgent need to stop the spread of dengue with the virus carried by mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and albopictus, especially in low-lying areas with stagnant water.
He said he will also mobilize all barangay health workers, nutrition scholars, and barangay service point officers to be vigilant and conduct massive advocacy campaigns against dengue in their assigned barangays.
The city mayor said the dengue strain has become very virulent this rainy season and is more dangerous than influenza A (H1N1) virus, which is now affecting 96 countries in the world.
Treñas said the city is more susceptible to dengue now that the rainy season sets in and stagnant water abounds as breeding place of mosquitoes.
He added the residents must be aware of dengue and its spread to attack unsuspecting victims, especially children.
Flyers, radio and television announcements, newspapers, public forums, and seminars are held for the people to be wary of dengue and mosquitoes. (LCP)
