Frog At First Bite
IT MUST be the bracingly cold mountain air. It must be the stimulating company. It must be the chance that I might not have again and that is to take my first bite of Kermit’s kith and kin at Don Salvador Benedicto.
From the fields of the Summer Capital of Negros to the platter, frogs took centerstage on the plate and our palate at the municipality’s Kali-kalihan Festival.

Costanilla: Calungsod and unpaid judges
MOVIE. We are behind the plan of Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia and Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos to jointly produce a movie on the life of Blessed Pedro Calungsod, who will soon be beatified in Rome. Sounds exciting to us considering that, as historians tell us, the martyred youth was from Ginatilan, making him the very first true-blue Cebuano saint.

Singlestalk: Too sick or toxic
Luab: Blessed is the person who is loved
JUNE is the month for brides, but February is the month of love. There really are three stages of love. The first is when love hits you with full force when you are in the ages of 16 to 21. (It seems, though, that the present generation starts younger than 16). This is when caution is thrown to the winds, when people elope, when that piercing surging, burst of fresh innocent “hit” from cupid’s arrow causes us to forget time constraints, parental authority and even societal acceptance. But oh! the wonder and the joy of having felt that gift of being told that you are his only love.

The kids donned paper toques and white aprons before entering the banquet hall. Inside, a colorful sight greeted all the guests as each table had colorful balloons that sprung out from red toque-shaped containers.
Things people do for love
VALENTINE’S Day is fast approaching – and the male halves of couples are scrambling to find something romantic to do for their female counterparts. It would be wise to avoid the cliché romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day – all the restaurants are taking the opportunity to literally cash in on the holiday and offer meals that will blow a metaphorical hole in your wallet with a metaphorical cannonball.
Pamper yourself
THE place is new. It started operations last January 23, 2012. Situated at the 2nd floor of the new Bacolod Chinese Chamber of Commerce at the back of a bank and the old bus terminal, Pamper Zone Spa and Salon for Kids and Adults is something to visit, to try, and to frequent.
Why? First, the people. My visit to Pamper Zone is very heart-warming. Ivan and Mia Jaranilla–Flores, the young entrepreneur-owners of Pamper Zone, are comely and genial. The couple is hands-on mangers of the spa and the salon, reporting early and daily to manage their business.

Roles
FOR those who care, I celebrated my 53th birthday last February 8. I had a quiet birthday as in the case in most of my birthdays. I had lunch with Chona and two of my Titas to a buffet. I asked Raphael if he wanted to join but he said he was busy. I also invited a cousin but she said she had a prior appointment. The lunch was a pleasant one as it is usually with those Titas of mine. There was laughter and bantering amidst good food.
