20 persons file COCs at Comelec

THE Commission on Elections (COmelec) said it would take at least 30 days before they will come up with the official list of national candidates for the May 2010 polls.

This, after they get rid of the "unknown individuals" who will later be declared as nuisance candidates.

Since Friday, the start of the 12-day filing of certificate of candidacy (COC), less than 20 individuals have filed their respective COCs seeking to run in the presidential and senatorial seats.

On Saturday, no aspirants have filed any COCs. But on Sunday, one individual, who is seeking to run for the highest position in the land, filed his COC before the Comelec central office in Manila.

Manny Lopez, 73, said he will be able to stand up other presidential bets such as Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III and former Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, and even US President Barack Obama.

He also claimed that he studied economics in the Netherlands and Germany, got it through a government scholarship.

If given the chance to serve the country, he will wipe out poverty and will focus in rural areas of the country.

On the other hand, the Comelec said any person can file a verified position seeking to deny or cancel a COC within five days from the last day of filing but not later than 25 days after it.

The poll body earlier said they expect politicians, who are seeking national elective positions, to file their respective COCs together with their party-mates starting next week and towards the end of the scheduled filing.

The filing of COCs will end at 12 midnight on December 1.

The Comelec will declare an applicant as nuisance candidate, if he or she fails to convince them that they can launch a nationwide campaign. (FP/Sunnex)
