Antipolo rules Laguna Lake run

RUNNERS from Antipolo City showed utmost composure in a 207-kilometer ultra marathon Sunday dubbed as the First Laguna Lake Challenge.

The ward of former national standout Roy Vence won the grand prize of P350,000 with a total time of 07:25:45.

“Nag-bunga rin yong rigid three-month training namin sa Antipolo,” said Vence, a five-time Milo marathon men’s champion.

The Airforce-Brooks led by Eduardo Evangelista settled for the second place bagging P200,000 after clocking 7:41.59,

Army Team D (7:58.31) snared third place to take home P100,000, while its Team D (8:01.57) was fourth and garnered P75,000.

Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) General Manager Edgardo Manda said: “We were able to stage this first ultra marathon competition raising public awareness on Laguna Lake despite the odds.”

He added that two huge companies were interested in aiding the agency’s advocacy to conserve Laguna Lake and its surroundings.

The rigorous run started from the Provincial Capitol of Laguna in Sta. Cruz town and ended at Tiendesitas in Pasig City.

The event was organized by the Laguna and Rizal provincial governments, Manila Water Company, San Miguel Corporation, Nestle Philippines, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

It was also supported by Rotary Club Makati Central, Unilever, Sogo Hotels, Petron, NCA, and CBK Power Company Ltd. and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor). (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
