FOLLOWING the first tax evasion case filed by the government against a pawnshop owner, President Benigno Aquino III wanted that cases will be filed against violators at least once a week.
In an interview at the inauguration of a Philippine National Police Training facility at the Subic Freeport Zone, Aquino said he would like to see more cases filed against tax evaders and smugglers.
Updates on President Benigno Aquino III's presidency
He said they have intelligence information on the smuggling activities and he wants to make sure these are accurate before arrests are made and cases are filed.
Aquino added that these cases should be backed up by proof and evidence to ensure that it will prosper in court.
According to the President, a conviction is as important as an arrest and would prove that his administration is serious in the campaign against smugglers and tax evaders.
“Walang silbi yung mang-aaresto tayo pero wala tayong mako-convict. Pag-inaresto, kailangan plantsadong-plantsado na, thorough ang case preparation para mabilis ang proseso ng paggawad ng katarungan.”
The President said more cases will be filed in the coming days as the government campaign against tax cheats intensifies. (JMR/Sunnex)
