A SENIOR adviser and campaign manager of Makati Mayor and Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino-United Opposition (PMP-UNO) vice presidential bet Jejomar Binay was shot in Cainta town before noon Sunday.
Makati Information Community and Relations Department (ICRD) chief Joey Salgado said Gerardo Limlingan, 68, survived the attack with a gunshot wound in the arm and leg.

Limlingan is now being treated at The Medical City hospital under tight security.
Salgado said that Limlingan was driving his Hyundai Santa Fe (NRO-150) along East Bank Road, Manggahan, Barangay San Andres around 11:45 a.m. when the suspects on board a motorcycle pulled up alongside his car and shot the victim several times.
Responding policemen brought him to the hospital while the gunmen sped off towards an unknown destination after the attack.
Salgado said Limlingan may have come from the Eastridge Golf Club as it was his routine to play golf every weekend.
“Inaalam pa namin ang detalye sa nangyari nabigla nga kami dito,” he added.
In a statement, Binay condemned the attack on his adviser whom he described as a “very dear family friend.”
“The attempt on his life is a despicable act that deserves condemnation. It is obviously politically motivated,” Binay said even as he refused to provide additional details.
At the same time, the opposition leader called on the Philippine National Police (PNP) to exert all efforts to arrest the suspect and whoever is behind the attack.
Binay said they have provided authorities the information that may helped in the resolution of the case. “We have provided the authorities all the information that we have and we hope that they will act with dispatch.”
Though Limlingan was not working in an official capacity in his campaign, Binay said he was his senior adviser.
In 2006, another Binay’s close associate, Lito Glean, was shot dead by two pistol-wielding gunmen at Fort Bonifacio, Global City in Taguig.
Glean was then the head of the Makati City Business Permits and Licensing Office.
Glean was a close friend and political ally of Binay for more than 15 years and also served as his security chief at one time. (AH/Sunnex)
