Before becoming a Feng Shui consultant, Lim was into garments.

She launched UZO clothing line and had three stores then in Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan City.

But UZO closed down. "Matigas pa ulo ko noon... hindi ako nakikinig," she recalled.

Lim's family practices Feng Shui. She admitted though there was a time she ignores it.

She cites her family background as having influence in her venturing into Feng Shui business.

Charms and Crystals started as Lim's hobby. "I love crystals, bling-blings even before but not auspicious because there were none at that time."

Lim was the first to sell crystals with auspicious items in the Philippines.

"I started with Frog and did Buddha...," she said. "Then I thought of lucky charms in all aspects."

When asked where she got the idea, she replied: "A friend of mine asked me to buy her a pink Buddha during one of my travels abroad. This is where I got the idea."

She related that her friend then had a troubled relationship. "When she (Lim's friend) started using rosequartz, which symbolizes love, their relationship became harmonious."

"Ang crystals may connection sa human body plus its auspicious," she added. With this in mind, Lim launched Charms and Crystals.

Among Lim's first client was TV personality Boy Abunda. "I sponsored Boy Abunda... it was Private Conversations then... and that's how it all started." Lim and Abunda have a common friend.

Later on, Lim gained more clients especially those coming from the showbiz circle.

Kris Aquino tapped her too and even Kim Chiu, Dingdong Dantes, and Marian Rivera.

Starting small

"I started small... ang daming unexpected blessings... mga bigay. It was heaven's luck," she said when Sun.Star asked her how much was her start-up capital.

Lim opened her first Charms and Crystals store in Dapitan Street, Espana in Quezon City. Today, she already has nine stores in Metro Manila alone. On top of this, Lim also distributes her products in the US and Japan.

In Cebu, Lim said she is open for franchising. "You will be surprised, there is no franchise fee."

Asked about her workers, she said she started having her two yayas, her sister, and herself doing the labor.

At present, the four ballooned to 100 employees. Lim gladly shared that all her staffs are well-trained.

All her materials are sourced from abroad.

Lim also personally craft her designs. "I calculate my forecast. There is formula to follow. We do the bracelets based on your animal sign..."

Facing challenges

Lim admitted that even if she is a Feng Shui consultant, she is not perfect.

"If you practice Feng Shui right, overwhelming talaga ang fortune. But don't think ikaw ang magaling. You also need financial adviser, don't fully trust. I am not saying 100 percent good life, I am saying if you are doing this (Feng Shui) overwhelming ang luck."

At her young age, she said she is very thankful of the success she is reaping. "My parents... they were so happy."

But Lim was humble to accept there were times too that she faces challenges in running her business.

While she refused to further elaborate, she hinted some trouble in franchising.

"It is better to start small... and always be hands-on," she stressed.

Secrets to success

Lim welcomes the fact that so many entrepreneurs are now venturing into the Feng Shui business.

Asked about her competitors, Lim said: "I will be happy somehow they got ideas from me. Huwag lang mangopya."

The young Feng Shui consultant meantime attributes her success to God.

"God is good. You have free will to do what you want to do."

She however pointed out that it pays to have good intention, exert effort, and not being selfish.

"Keep on sharing... learn to share everything and God will do the rest."

To entrepreneurs, she reminds them to be hands-on in running their business and not easily trust people.

In Charms and Crystals, Lim said they want "word of mouth".

"People are coming back to us because we treat them as family," she said, adding the relationship with clients does not end after buying their crystals.

Meanwhile, Sun.Star sought Lim's general forecast of the country's economy in 2011.

The year 2011 is the year of the Golden Rabbit.

Lim said there will still be fights, misunderstanding, and violence.

But it is good news to all aspiring entrepreneurs as 2011, according to her, is "a year of good income."
