Cebu lawmaker files two more bills

CONGRESSWOMAN Rachel "Cutie" Del Mar (Cebu City, North) filed another two bills in Congress, seeking the construction of two more flyovers in Cebu City.
Del Mar authored House bill 820 and 821 aiming to decongest traffic in Cebu City through the construction of the projects at Gorordo and Archbisop Reyes Avenues, and at the junction of M.J. Cuenco and Gen. Maxilom Avenues.

“The proposed project is consistent with the much-needed program to improve the transport and traffic situation in Cebu City in view of accelerating overall economic development in the city,” the bills read.
Del Mar added that population growth should be matched by an efficient system of traffic management.
According to the 2007 census by the National Statistics Office (NSO), the population of Cebu province was pegged at 2.44 million, a growth of only 1.68 percent. Of the figure, residents of Cebu City were at 798,809.
The two bills filed Monday afternoon brings Del Mar's bills to a total of 18.
The first-term lawmaker filed 16 bills last July 1 that was earlier sought by his father, former Deputy Speaker Raul del Mar.
It included the construction of an undersea tunnel, an act providing for the construction of a Light Rail Transit (LRT) Cebu; Prohibition of Use, Wearing, Manufacture and Sale of Uniforms of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Anti-Theft and Robbery of Portable Telecommunication Devices Act.
