Cebuano Idol finalist sings for youth

HE MAY not have clinched the top prize in Philippine Idol, but Drae Ybañez continues to be actively involved in serving the country, especially the Filipino youth.

“Right now, I'm with Movement For Good Governance. And then I joined Artists for Revolution with Juana Change,” said Ybañez.

Movement for Good Governance is an umbrella organization that links a number of civic and youth organizations while Artists for Revolution comprise of artists who perform to call for positive social change.

Ybañez traces his roots to Cebu even if he grew up in Cainta, Rizal, where he works for an orphanage as a volunteer.

“Even before Philippine Idol, I was already working with street kids in Children's Garden,” he shared.

He also founded a movement for the youth - Itaguyod ang Kabataan, which is linked with the Movement for Good Governance.

"The youth – that’s what I'm pushing for," he added.

Singing for Ybañez now comes with a purpose. Some of his recent singing stints include one that is for the Noynoy Aquino fundraising concert and the "Todo na 'to" concert staged by the Movement for Good Governance.

Being an alumnus of De La Salle University, he has also sung Visayan version of the alma mater song in a grand performance by the alumni.

Right now, meetings with other civil society groups as a representative of his movement keep him busy.

"I'm gonna speak with them again to support Noynoy for real change in the 2010 elections," he said. (Angela Casauay/Sunnex)
