Comelec resets special poll anew

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) moved anew the special elections in some areas in the country from October 2 to November 6, a poll official said Wednesday.
Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento said the special polls in Bulacan, Basilan and Lanao del Sur were rescheduled to another date.

He said the en banc was convinced that the November 6 date would provide sufficient time to hold the preparations for the conduct of the polls.
The delay occurred when Law Department head Ferdinand Rafanan questioned the contract price for the holding of the polls as he found the price too expensive.
“Pero na-clarify naman na. They eventually found na reasonable yung Terms and Conditions na ibabayad sa Smartmatic,” said Sarmiento.
However, the Comelec official did not give the specific price of the contract.
The special elections are set to be held at the 1st Legislative District of Bulacan (congressional seat), Basilan (provincial board members), and in eight towns of Lanao del Sur (all municipal elective posts).
An estimated 590,515 registered voters are set to participate in the activity.(FP/Sunnex)
