TV5 to air boxing bouts Sunday-A A +A
Saturday, July 16, 2011
THE Kapatid network will broadcast two exciting boxing matches this Sunday in its "Bigtime Bakbakan."
Philippines' very own Brian "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria will be gunning for the WBO Flyweight title against its current holder, Julio Cesar Miranda.
Viloria, with a record of 28 wins and 3 losses, is the former IBF and WBC Light Flyweight champion.
The 30-year-old fighter hopes to be a world title holder again after winning two straight fights recently. He won split decision against Omar Soto last July 10, 2010 and took on Leimpetch Sor Veerapol of Thailand, knocking the latter out in the seventh round last November 5, 2010.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Mexican boxer (Miranda) won the WBO world title when he knocked out Filipino Riche Mepranum last June 12. He was able to defend his title against another Filipino, Arden Diale last February 26.
Viloria promises to give his best for this fight.
"Each fight, I treat it the way it’s supposed to be treated: real serious. It’s no different for this one. The way I look at it, there’s more motivation for me."
"There’s a lot of things riding on this fight; it’s a world title. I’m coming into the last few legs of my career so it’s that much more important for me to do well and win another one."
Aside from the Viloria-Miranda bout, TV5 will also air Manny Pacquiao's next opponent, Juan Manuel Marquez, who will test his punching power against Colombian fighter Likar Ramos.
The 37-year-old Marquez tests his mettle against the southpaw Ramos who is much younger at 25 years old.
Having fought last November 27, 2010 against Michael Katsidis, Marquez hopes to shake the rust before going up against Pacquiao in their Las Vegas fight this November. He is raring to avenge his 2008 loss against Pacquiao and hopes that this fight will prepare him for the bigger fight.
A left-handed fighter like Pacquiao, Ramos currently has a streak of three wins, all by knockout. This is the first time that he will be going against a big-name fighter like the Mexican legend Marquez.
Don't miss these matches this Sunday on AksyonTV Channel 41 in Metro Manila, Channel 29 in Davao and Cebu. Back-to-back primetime replay of the fights will start at 6:30 p.m. on AKTV on IBC channel 13. (Sunnex)
