'Pinta*Kasi' to grace selected cinemas in February

AFTER its success in the New Wave category in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), "Pinta*Kasi" will be shown in major theaters this February.

"Pinta*Kasi", which won the 2011 Best Film in the New Wave category of MMFF, will hit SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Fairview, SM North Edsa, SM Cebu and SM Iloilo on February 8 and SM Baguio, SM Davao and SM Batangas on February 29.

Produced by Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, the movie is about a boy named DJ, played by John Wayne Sace, who is on the verge of adulthood and who has a passion for painting.

From the province, DJ went to the country's capital and lived in Isla Pulo, a shanty town island outside the city. There, he will use the place and its people as his canvas and will change the lives of many.

According to Marcos, this is Sace's comeback in showbizness and it is a must-see movie for everyone.

"Ang pelikulang 'Pinta*Kasi' is about pagbabago. Pagbabagong buhay... Marami tayong naririnig na issue kay John Wayne, ang masasabi ko lang na ang pagbabago ay andito. Ito na yung bagong John Wayne... magaling, gwapo at handang handang magtrabaho."

Also part of the film are JM De Guzman, who won the Best Actor trophy during the MMFF for this movie, "Maria la del Barrio" star Erich Gonzales, Alwyn Uytingco, Giselle Sanchez and William Martinez.

JM plays "Tikboy", a small time gang leader who is the uncrowned king of the island and falls in love with Josie, played by Erich.

Josie is the girl whose love and attention will stir conflict between the two male lead stars, giving way to the first meaning of the film's title “sabong” or cockfight.

The movie took three years to develop and will feature dance, music, and animation.

"Ang dami naming pinagdaanan sa pelikulang ito. Sa animation palang, sa music and special effects, talagang kumain na talaga ng oras. Pinaghirapan talaga namin ang technical and maganda naman talaga yung kinalabasan," said Marcos.

She added that "Pinta*Kasi" has been invited to several festivals abroad. They are slated to join the Honolulu and Beijing Film Festivals this year. (Sunnex)
