Maja, Paulo win Gawad Urian

ABS-CBN talents Maja Salvador and Paulo Avelino bagged Best Actress and Actor trophies, respectively, in the recently concluded 35th Gawad Urian.
Held at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Maja won for her performance in Paul Soriano's directorial project "Thelma," while Paulo for the independent film "Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa."
The Cinemalaya 2011 entry not only bagged the Best Actor award, but six other trophies.
"Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa" was named as Best Picture at the awards night and Alvin Yapan was hailed as this year's Best Director.
GMA actress Jean Garcia won the Best Supporting Actress award, while the movie also took home the Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Music titles.
Garcia also won Best Actress trophy for the same movie at the Golden Screen Awards earlier this year.
Other winners at the Urian are "Kitchen Musical" actor Art Acuna for "Nino," "The Natural Phenomenon of Madness" for Best Production Design, "Amok" for Best Editing and Best Sound, "Sirip" for Best Short Film and "Tundong Magiliw" for Best Documentary.
Meanwhile, cinematographer Rody Lacap is this year's recipient of the “Natatanging Gawad Urian.”
The gathering of stars was hosted by Venus Raj, Angel Aquino, Zoren Legaspi and Butch Francisco.
Replays of the 35th Gawad Urian will be shown in Cinema One on June 17 at 4 p.m. and June 24 at 10 p.m. (Sunnex)
