Vin Abrenica junks sibling rivalry with Aljur

"ARTISTA Academy" hopeful Vin Abrenica reiterated he's not joining showbizness to compete with older brother Aljur.

Vin is among the 16 finalists who were chosen to vie for the coveted Best Actor/Actress title and take home the P20-million prize package.

Aljur, 22, was a product of GMA’s defunct reality-based talent show Starstruck. He won the “Ultimate Hunk” title in 2006 and has since appeared in several television dramas and movies.

"Hindi ko po siya iniisip na competition. Gagawin po niya ang best niya at gagawin ko naman ang best ko. He's my brother. I highly respect the man,” Vin said. "I'll just do my best. Kung ano ang kailangan gawin na trabaho, gagawin ko dahil ito po ang pinili kong path.”

Vin admitted that he didn’t see himself working in the industry at first as he turned down offers from the Kapuso Network to finish his culinary arts degree.

After graduating last April, however, the 21-year-old said he was torn between chasing his dream to be an actor and going back to Batangas to help his father in running the family business.

“Pero gusto kong sundan yung puso ko na gusto ko pala mag-entertain ng tao. So hinanda ko yung sarili ko physically. Saka yung mga talents ko na-enhance ko pa po. Nag-gitara po ako, nag-sayaw po ako, kumakanta-kanta po ako kahit sa banyo lang,” Vin, dubbed as the search’s “Singing Hunk”, said.

Vin shared that Aljur was solidly behind him, giving tips on how to improve his craft.

"Sabi niya, being an actor is not being pogi lang. Kailangan nag-aaral din at nag-iimprove. Kailangan panoorin ko raw sarili ko. Kung may kailangan daw ako sa kanya, andyan lang siya para sa akin... isang tawag lang,” he said.

He said they will likely complement each other in acting jobs.

“I don't see him as my competition. I see him as an older brother. Ayoko yung sinasabi sa akin na hihigitan ko raw siya. Para sa akin, hindi ko siya tinitignan bilang kalaban,” he said.

Vin likened his journey to TV5, which is trying to carve a niche in the competitive broadcast industry.

“Gusto kong maging artista, kailangan kong paghirapan na maging artista. Kailangan kong pagdaanan at pag-aralan yung mga steps po bago makarating sa taas. Andito ako sa Kapatid network. Masaya ako dito. Sa akin kasi, nagsisimula pa lang ang TV5. Nagsisimula pa lang din ako. Parang fresh start kaming pareho," he ended. (Sunnex)
