ABS-CBN talents celebrate 6th Star Magic Ball

ABS-CBN stars donned their most glamorous gowns and tuxedos Saturday evening as they celebrated the 6th Star Magic Ball.

Held at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-la Hotel, the annual event was attended by the biggest and brightest talents of the station.

Leading the pack are Kapamilya ultimate leading men John Lloyd Cruz and Piolo Pascual. The two hosted the event with comedian John "Sweet" Lapus.


John Lloyd looked very dapper in his Tom Ford suit, while rumored girlfriend Angelica Panganiban wowed the red carpet in her black Ellie Saab gown paired with diamond earrings.

The two arrived to the event separately but with only minutes of interval.

"The Mistress" lead actress Bea Alonzo, in her black Rajo Laurel gown, also graced the event with boyfriend Zanjoe Marudo.

Bea described Zanjoe as her "best accessory of the night." Marudo was wearing an Yves Saint Laurent tux.

Her best friend, Shaina Magdayao, also came in the event in her Amir Sali serpentine gown.

Kapamilya actress Kim Chiu, who wore an old Hollywood inspired gown by Edwin Tan, was escorted by Xian Lim, while close friend Maja Salvador, in champagne-colored Avel Bacudio creation, decided to strut the red carpet alone.

Maja's ex-boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli also arrived on his own, but was later seen with his guy friends in the industry.

Actor Coco Martin was also dateless during the big event.

Matteo wore Francis Libiran tux, while Coco donned a Dior Homme suit.

Other Kapamilya leading men who went solo at the ball are JM De Guzman in Avel Bacudio styled by Eric Pe Benito, John Prats, Matt Evans in Nat Manilag suit, Ejay Falcon, Enrique Gil and Sam Milby in Francis Libiran suit, Vhong Navarro, Jason Abalos and Paolo Avelino both dressed by Edwin Tan, and Gerald Anderson in Gucci.

Diether Ocampo wore a Randy Ortiz suit, Joseph Marco in Calvin Klein, Enchong Dee in Michael Cinco, Khalil Ramos in Nat Manilag, Erik Santos in Inno Sotto, and Jed Madela styled by Patty Yap.

The ladies also dazzled the red carpet in their black and white inspired ball gowns.

Rica Peralejo arrived wearing a Rajo Laurel dress, Dimples Romana in Perry Tabora gown, Jessy Mendiola in Nat Manilag, Charee Pineda in Ronaldo Arnaldo, Vina Morales in Eric Delos Santos, Angeline Quinto in Pepsi Herrera, Nikki Valdez and Kaye Abad in Rajo Laurel, Yeng Constantino in Albert Andrada, Megan Young in Randy Ortiz, and Pokwang in Dong Omaga-Diaz.

New couples Maricar Reyes-Richard Poon and Melissa Ricks-Paul Jake Castillo were also spotted in the event.

Maricar wore an Ivarluski Aseron gown, while Melissa donned a black Cherry Veric creation.

Other big names spotted in the event were Randy and Rowell Santiago, Martin Nievera, Janice de Belen, Iza Calzado, Carmina Villarroel and Dawn Zulueta.

Stars say thank you

The evening was also not just about the glitz and glamour of showbizness, it was also the time to pay tribute to the men and women of Star Magic and ABS-CBN.

Kapamilya stars acknowledged the contributions of Star Magic executive Mariol Alberto, head master Mr. Johnny Manahan, Mr. Freddie Garcia, and channel head Ms. Cory Vidanes in their individual careers.

Piolo and John Lloyd said if it weren't for these people, they wouldn't be where they are now in the industry.

Singers Vina Morales, Jovit Baldivino, Bugoy Drillon, Liezl Garcia, Nyoy Volante, Angeline Quinto, Richard Poon, Erik Santos and Yeng Constantino serenaded the executives.

They also thanked the production team, ad and promotions people, and their handlers.

Star Magic Ball special awards

During the event, the talent arm of ABS-CBN also gave special awards to the attendees.

"Showbiz Inside Report" host Carmina Villarroel won the Hot Mama award, while Gerald Anderson got the Hot Papa trophy.

"Princess and I" sweethearts Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo won the Star Magic Breakout Style award, while Maja Salvador and Enchong Dee bagged the Star of the Night trophies.

Xian Lim and Kim Chiu went home as the Couple of the Night, while Bea Alonzo was hailed as the Female Stunner of the ball.

"Walang Hanggan" lead stars Julia Montes and Coco Martin won the Sweetheart of the Night award and Standout Star trophy, respectively.

Singer Khalil Ramos and Julia Barretto were hailed as the Prince and Princess of the Night.

Star Magic also acknowledged the loyalty of Diether Ocampo and Angelica Panganiban during the ball.

Angelica is with Star Magic and ABS-CBN for 20 years now, while Diether is on his 17th year.

The young and fresh new faces of the talent arm were also introduced during the evening.

A teaser of the upcoming movie of Piolo, Pokwang, Kim, Gerald, Bea, John Lloyd, Zaijian Jaranilla and Xyriel Manabat was also shown during the program.

In the past 20 years, Star Magic produced more than 300 artists in the industry. The annual ball was created to celebrate the fruitful years and bright future of the Kapamilya stars. (Sunnex)
