THIRTY years after it was first staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the hit pop ballet musical "Rama, Hari" will be performed this November with powerhouse cast.
Led by Filipino international singers Christian Bautista, Karylle, and the Ballet Philippines, the production is based on the Indian epic Ramayana.
Christian and Karylle will reprise the roles of Rama and Sita, respectively.
"Rama Hari" will be the third production of Ballet Philippines this year after staging "Songs" and "Neo-Filipino: Anting"
Paul Alexander, the artistic director of the musical, said "Rama Hari" is very special because it's a collaboration of the best Filipino artists.
Choreographed by Alice Reyes and under the musical genius of maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Rama Hari's libretto is written by National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbrera while National Artist for Theater Design Salvador Bernal did the set and costume design.
The lyrics of the show are in Filipino, but there will be English subtitles translated by National Artist Rolando Tinio.
Other big names who will grace the production are Robert Seña as the demon Ravana, OJ Mariano, Kalila Aguilos, Cristian Rey Marbella, Noel Rayos, Lani Ligot, Amparo Sietereales and Brezhnev Larlar.
Ballet Philippines' principal dancers Jean Marc Cordero and Richardson Yadao will essay the role of Rama and Carissa Adea and Katherine Trofeo as Sita.
"Rama, Hari" will run from November 30 to December 9 at the CCP Main Theater. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
