MR. PURE ENERGY Gary Valenciano became emotional when asked about the plan of his son, Gabriel, to leave the country to pursue a degree in music in Orlando, Florida.
During the ASAP 18 Anniversary press conference, the singer revealed that Gab is finalizing his papers and will be flying to the States in March.
Gary admitted that it is going to be a difficult time for his family because it will be the first time that his son will live on his own.
"That's the one na medyo masakit kasi the next time I'm going to see him is baka sa December na," he said.
"Medyo difficult because between Paolo and Gab, when Paolo gets married he's staying in the Philippines. When Gab leaves, I really think he's going to end up staying in the States because he already met a lot of people there. He met the people I know and they've already said that they could work together," Gary said.
According to Gary, it's been a long time plan of Gab to study abroad but he decided to stay a little bit in the country to save money for his education and to really make-up his mind on what he really wanted to pursue in the States.
He also confirmed that Gab is already taking online courses now and produces music for blu-ray, games and movies.
When asked how is Angeli, his wife, is taking this new development in their son's career, the singer said that she is happy and proud of him, but saddened that he will be leaving home soon.
"It's a double whammy for me and Angeli. Sometimes blessings are difficult when you know you have done well with your children and they have to go," Gary said.
"It's my first time to get really emotional on the matter. She's okay we are not trying to think about it too much. The thought na hindi lang sila aalis ng bahay, na we are opening our hands for them to fly now," he added.
Meanwhile, Gary also gave his reaction to Gab's romantic relationship with young actress and television host Coleen Garcia.
Gary said things are still going well between the young couple and he sometimes talks to Coleen about Gab's plans.
"I think they've been talking about it. I talk to Coleen and she said he's a little (sad) and nararamdaman na niya na he's about to leave. He's never been away from the family and we're always there," he said.
He said Gab will still be in the company of his family as his mom lives near the university where Gab is attending, but the 24-year-old will still live on his own.
Gary said he's very proud of his son because he never pressures him to join the entertainment business and also venture into music. He said his only advice to his son is to do whatever it is that makes him happy.
"My number one concern was for them to live under my wings. I don't expect them to dress like me, talk like me, walk like me, sing like me. I do give him advice but that's it," he said.
The whole Valenciano family is preparing a big send-off party for Gab in the coming weeks, Gary said. (Sunnex)
