Richard Yap named 'Breakthrough Actor of 2012'

AFTER receiving the Breakthrough Performance of an Actor trophy from the 2012 Golden Screen TV Awards for his role in "My Binondo Girl," "Be Careful with My Heart" lead actor Richard Yap said that he will never disappoint the audience of his top-rating morning series.

In an interview with the actor after the awards night Friday at Teatrino in Promenade, Greenhills, San Juan City, Richard said the award is another milestone of his blossoming show biz career.

"It's very heartwarming. It's such a great feeling to be recognized for someone as new as me. I'm just so blessed by the Lord and I'm inspired by all the people who are giving me the support," said Richard, who played the role of Papa Chen in the "My Binondo Girl" series on ABS-CBN.

Richard said the success he's experiencing now is largely based on the support of the fans. He said without them, he'll never get a second look at show biz.

"I just do what I have to do. Hindi ko iniisip na gusto kong magka-award or anything. Basta ayusin ko lang yung trabaho and do the best I can in everything that I do," he said.

Richard added: "I don't how long this career is going last. Since I'm here, I might as well enjoy it and be thankful for what I have."

Although he's known in romantic-comedy genre, the actor is also open in trying other projects. Richard revealed that he's keen in doing action series.

"We have to learn along the way, hindi pwedeng sasabak ka agad sa lahat. Ayokong maging half-baked. We might do other things later on," he added.

Asked about how he will celebrate this latest Golden Screen win, Richard said a quiet dinner with his wife, Melody, will do just fine. (Sunnex)
