Celebrities unite to help disaster-stricken countrymen-A A +A

IN THE wake of Tropical Storm Maring and Habagat battering Luzon, television personalities made sure to lend their hand to help those who are badly affected by the heavy rain and flood.
Leading those who extended their services is presidential sister Kris Aquino. The television host went to Laguna to help in a soup kitchen and relief distribution with her "Kris TV" staff, celebrity chef Florabel and eldest sister Ballsy.
Laguna was placed under state of calamity Tuesday afternoon after 69 barangays in the province experienced high level of flood.
Laguna Governor ER Ejercito said more than 16.450 families (80.400 individuals) were displaced and housed in 47 evacuation centers in their area.
Aside from the said province, The Queen of All Media also helped in relief operation in Taguig City with Mayor Lani Cayetano and Representative Lino Cayetano.
Aquino also went to Greater Fairview in Quezon City and gave out food to flood victims with Representative Alfred Vargas and was accompanied by sisters Ballsy, Pinky and Viel in relief operations in Paranaque City.
Meanwhile, actress Angel Locsin is among the first volunteers of the Philippine Red Cross in packing and distributing relief assistance in Metro Manila.
She visited Sto. Domingo Church where about 12,000 individuals took shelter during the onslaught of the monsoon rains.
The "Toda Max" lead actress also went to Diosdado Macapagal Elementary School in Tatalon, Barangay Dona Imelda in Araneta Avenue, and Barangay Bagong Silang, where more than 1,000 individuals found refuge in the barangay’s covered court.
Angel also encouraged her Instagram and Twitter followers to donate blankets, food, canned goods, medicines and toiletries to families affected by the heavy rains.
In a separate occasion, celebrity couple Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid also helped in repacking in Red Cross Kalayaan and Quezon City.
TV host Ruffa Gutierrez, actress Rhian Ramos, hosts Dian Castellejo, and Phoemela Baranda, and Dr. Vicky Belo and daughter Cristalle Henares also lend services to Santa Rosa Community Hospital and Barangay Ibaba's Evacuation Center in Laguna.
The group packed cooked meals, relief goods and medicine.
Daughters Lorin and Venice accompanied Gutierrez.
On Tuesday, Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano's concert at Teatrino, Greenhills pushed through amid heavy rain. The singer announced beforehand that they will be accepting donations and the event will serve as a fund raising concert for the affected families of the floods.
Other stars who also helped in relief efforts are Judy Ann Santos, Ai Ai delas Alas, Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, KC Concepcion, Sam Milby, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. (Sunnex)
