Erik Santos celebrates 10th anniversary-A A +A
Friday, September 13, 2013
PRINCE of Pop Erik Santos said he does not rest on his laurels even after numerous successful shows and albums in show business.
This November, the "Star in A Million" grand winner will celebrate his decade-long career in the music industry.
Dubbed as "inTENse," his anniversary show will be staged at the PICC Plenary Hall on November 9 with special guests Angeline Quinto, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Concert Queen Pops Fernandez and Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez.
Even though he is considered as one of the respected performers in the Philippine music scene, Erik said he challenges himself more as an artist.
"Yung platform ng showbiz, people come and go. Ang daming singers. Pero kailangan lang talaga, 'yung palagi kang may ibinibigay sa tao, palaging may bago sa binibigay mo," he said.
Erik said in the few times that he appeared on television weekly, he makes sure to leave a good and lasting impression on the viewers on what he can do as a singer, "Almost every year merong live shows, concerts. Ang mga tao kasi, lagi kaming nakikita on television. So, tine-take ko 'yung chance na ito para makita nila what I can over pa."
While Erik feels fulfilled at all the successes in his career he still looks up to Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano as one of his role models.
"I think sa loob ng sampung taon, naikwento ko 'yung bawat kwento ng kantang kinakanta ko. Kailangan kasi, when you sing, you have to storytell. And sa bawat kwento ng mga awit na kinakanta ko, ang pinakamalaking achievement dun ay 'yung maraming mga tao ang naapektuhan din sa kanta," said Erik.
Right now, aside from his numerous local stints, Erik also aspires to do something in the international music scene.
He hopes to release another album in Asia, similar to his 2009 project "The Jim Brickman Songbook."
"Dream 'yun ng bawat singer na katulad ko. Ako kasi naniniwala na kung sa 'yo naman, sa 'yo talaga. Kailangan mo lang pagtrabahuhan din talaga. Nagiging wide 'yung audience namin, mas maraming nakakarinig ng kanta namin. So malay mo, mapansin one time," said the singer.
He’s also open to the possibility of trying his hands in acting. Erik said if the project interests him and he believes he will enjoy doing it, he will definitely give it a try. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
