IT DID not take long for Dingdong Dantes to decide to remain a Kapuso as he said GMA-7 is "where my heart truly belongs."
The actor inked a five-year exclusive network deal with the station on Saturday. Top GMA executives led by Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon, President and COO Gilberto Duavit, and Dingdong's manager Perry Lansigan attended the contract signing.
With this new contract extension, Dingdong cements his title as the "Primetime King" of GMA-7 after 15 years of staying true as a Kapuso.
He said the station was behind him when he was just starting in the industry, through youth oriented show "T.G.I.S." in 1995, until his last project "Pahiram ng Sandali" earlier this year.
"Throughout the years, which is practically half of my lifetime, they were always there to support me noong nag-uumpisa akong mangarap, noong hindi ko pa alam ang magiging direksyon ko sa buhay, noong mga panahon kung kailan I failed, noong mga panahon na hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko hanggang ngayon, andiyan sila," he said.
Dingdong added, "They were always there in fulfilling my dreams. That support is beyond just being a company, a network and just a house that holds my talent, but a home. I consider this as my home where my heart truly belongs."
The actor confirmed that there were offers from other channels, but at the end of the day, he will remain loyal to the station.
"Sa career natin, darating talaga ang crossroad, a time wherein magkakaroon ng ibang opportunity, other option, pero at the end of the day uuwi rin sa kung ano ang sinasabi ng puso," the actor added.
He then refrained from answering if he's the highest paid actor in GMA-7, but said his renewal is not about the money.
He said, "I want be politically correct by saying that I am not in the position to answer that. It’s classified. But more than the monetary amount, more than the compensation, it’s the commitment both our hearts have and, I think, that’s for me is priceless."
Dingdong's first project under his new contract is the sci-fi drama "Genesis."
The upcoming primetime series will tackle issues of the state and one's love for family and his country.
Dingdong said, "It's also a story about hope, na sa kabila ng mga nangyayari sa buhay mo, it's about how you will rise from these challenges."
Directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal and slated this October 7, "Genesis" will also feature Rhian Ramos, Jackylou Blanco, Robert Arevalo, and Lorna Tolentino. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
