CHILD actress Barbara Miguel wins the Best Actress trophy in the recently concluded Harlem International Film Festival in New York.
Miguel bagged the top acting recognition for her portrayal of Krista in Joseph Israel Labanan's independent film "Nuwebe."
The incest drama, according to its official website, is a film inspired by the actual story of one of the youngest mothers in the country's history.
"Krista was just 9-years-old when she got pregnant. Her mother believes that she was impregnated by malevolent supernatural creatures but the real story will prove to be more complicated than it seems."
The film is one of the 10 official entries in the New Breed Category of Cinemalaya 2013, which ran in July.
It stars Jake Cuenca, Nadine Samonte, Manny Castaneda and seasoned actress Anita Linda.
Aside from Harlem film fest, the movie was also screened at MovieMov Italian Film Festival in Rome, Italy and Montreal World Film Festival in Canada.
"Nuwebe" is also included in Vancouver International Film Festival in Canada, which is scheduled to run from September 26 to October 11, 2014. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
