ACTORS Sid Lucero and Glaiza de Castro are set to banner GMA News and Public Affairs' first historical documentary drama "Katipunan."
The eight-part series will present the history of the Filipino revolutionary group Katipunan in its entirety, from Andres Bonifacio's formation of the group, its discovery by the Spanish, and Bonifacio's murder.
The program will also showcase in detail the life of Bonifacio, dubbed as the "Father of the Revolution" and the secret organization's Supremo. It will also reveal the stories behind the intrigues and conflict within the group, and the heroes and heels of the Philippine Revolution.
Lucero will play the role of the Supremo while De Castro will portray his wife, Gregoria de Jesus.
Taking the helm of the project is Jaileen Jimeno with program manager Nowell Cuanang and writer Ian Victoriano.
Jimeno is the senior program manager of GMA News TV’s "Bawal ang Pasaway" and "Investigative Documentaries." Cuanang, on the other hand, is the program manager of documentary program "Reel Time," while Victoriano wrote "Sakay."
The team also tapped a pool of experts to provide context to the series.
Other names who are included in this production are Benjamin Alves, Dominic Roco, Mercedes Cabral, Nico Antonio, and Roi Vinzon.
"Katipunan" premieres this October on GMA-7. (Glaiza Jarloc/Sunnex)
