iTunes launches 'Songs for the PHL' album

THE biggest names in the international music industry are brought together in one album, which aims to raise funds for the benefit of the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Visayas.

The recently launched 39-track relief album, "Songs for the Philippines," sells for $9.99 on Apple's music store.

The bundle features songs from The Beatles ("Across the Universe" and "Let It Be"), Madonna ("Like a Prayer"), Kylie Minogue ("I Believe In You"), Josh Groban ("Brave"), Bob Dylan ("Shelter From the Storm") and Cher ("Sirens") among others.

British musicians Adele, Ellie Goulding, James Blunt, boy group One Direction, Irish rock band U2, as well as Filipino natives Jessica Sanchez, Enrique Iglesias and Apl.de.Ap are featured on the said album.

The album's proceeds will go directly to the Philippine Red Cross.

Meanwhile, music superstar Rihanna joins United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) and power couple David and Victoria Beckham in the Yolanda relief effort.

A longtime supporter of the Unicef, the singer who recently visited the country for a one-night concert, donated $100,000 to help those affected by the super typhoon. She also encouraged her 10 million followers on Instagram to do the same.

"I am honored to join them in helping children who have been impacted by Typhoon Yolanda. More than five million kids in the Philippines need our help. UNICEF is there for them today, and for the long road ahead, and so am I," the singer said in a statement published in the organization's website.

As of this posting, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reporter that more than 5,500 were dead, 26,000 injured, 1,700 missing and 2.3 million families were affected by Yolanda. (Sunnex)
