ACTRESS Toni Gonzaga described John Lloyd Cruz, her leading man in the new Kapamilya sitcom "Home Sweetie Home," as a gentleman.

Sun.Star and other entertainment press caught up with the two at the show's press conference Friday evening at ABS-CBN Compound in Quezon City.

John Lloyd left the venue right after the press conference while Toni stayed for the one-on-one interviews.

The actor, who is said to be at the receiving end of Anne Curtis' recent bar fracas, apparently tried to avoid the members of the media.

When Toni was asked about her leading man and the slapping incident involving the actor and the "It's Showtime" host at a luxury club at The Fort, Taguig City last month, the television host shared she was with the actor the day after the news made headlines.

The actress said she heard of the issue but they never talked about it.

"We talk about life in general. Wala kaming problema sa personal na buhay. Napag-uusapan yung trabaho and common friends," she said.

Although she never asked about the incident, Toni said her co-star is a "gentleman." "Definitely (he's a gentleman). He never showed any sign of… (attitude)," she added.

Toni added that John Lloyd remained professional even after the news circulated in showbiz grapevine.

The television host said she doesn't want to discuss it further since she was not part of it.

"There are some questions na tinatanong sa akin about diyan, but I’d rather not talk about it kasi hindi naman ako involved. I have nothing to do with it," she said.

"Ayoko siyang pag-usapan kasi masyado siyang malaking issue at masyado siyang kontrobersiyal. Ayoko makadagdag. Ayoko magbigay ng unsolicited advise because I have nothing to do with the issue," she added.

But for someone who hosted "The Buzz," a showbiz oriented program, Toni shared she's just too happy to keep mum and mind her own business.

"(Pagkarinig ko nun) sabi ko ‘yehey!’ dahil tapos na ako diyan. Kasi hindi na ako nag 'The Buzz'. Finally I could really say na if something happens, if there's a controversy, it's really none of my business because it's not my job to talk about it."

Meantime, Toni is excited to work again with John Lloyd after doing "My Amnesia Girl" in 2010. She said the upcoming sitcom is a happy reunion for the two of them.

The actress/host described the actor as someone who is capable of not only doing drama, but also someone who has knack for comedy.

"Mahusay talaga siya and mapagbigay. Pag magka-eksena na kami, mawawala talaga agad yung hiya kasi ang galing galing niyang actor," she said.

She said the program is worth watching and they will see a different John Lloyd in the series.

"Isang maganda programa ito na binuo ng ABS-CBN para manumbalik yung Kapamilya comedy," she added.

"Home Sweetie Home" will premiere on January 5 at 7:30 p.m. (Sunnex)
