Sunday, December 29, 2013
THEY say that in show business, you either have a successful career or a happy love life.
This rings true to these 12 personalities who fell in and out of love in front of our very eyes.
Nikki Gil and Billy Crawford
Many thought this union will soon have its own happy ending, but in July, singer Billy Crawford surprised everyone when he confirmed that his four-year romance with Nikki Gil has ended.
The presence of a third party was speculated to have triggered the break-up, especially when Billy was linked to his "It's Showtime" co-host Coleen Garcia and "Momzillas" co-star Andi Eigenmann. But the singer clarified in a "The Buzz" interview that he initiated the break-up because he was "lost and confused."
Billy disclosed that Nikki tried her hardest to save their relationship but it's hard for him to fight for something if he's broken inside.
"I'm very lost. Very confused. It all boils down to me. It's a indescribable feeling, it's all like all these negativity, confusion and the sadness, the hurt, Nikki has been anything but good to me," Billy said.
In a separate interview with Nikki weeks after the split, the "Maria Mercedes" actress cited "differences in values" as the reason why the relationship collapsed.
"It takes two to tango, mayroon din naman tayo pagkakamali and differences in values. That's really it," she said.
The two haven't seen each other since the break-up.
Nikki said she is moving forward. She's not yet ready to commit again but is not closing her doors for a new love.
"I'm fine. I'm fabulous, thank you," she said.
Many consider this union and break-up as weird.
Kapamilya actress Cristine Reyes was constantly linked to her "No Other Woman" leading man Derek Ramsay since they filmed the movie in 2011.
Things became official between them in August 28 when Derek confirmed that he "ate his words" and dated someone part of the entertainment industry.
The two made headlines when Derek surprised his thousands of Instagram followers of a photo of him locking lips with Cristine with a caption: "This is forever."
One month after the said post, they broke up.
In a recent interview with Cristine, the "Honesto" actress explained they gave romance a chance after some people around them constantly pairing them together. But, she said, they soon found out that they are better off as friends.
This was also the sentiment of Derek, who said he values his friendship with Cristine so much and the latter will always have a special part in his life.
He added that there is no one to blame in the break-up. Derek said they were "back to normal" as best of friends.
"Walang may kasalanan and that's it. Walang may mali, walang masama. It's just a decision that was made. There's nobody wrong. Nangyari 'yung nangyari. Walang bagay na nagdala ng galit o kung ano man 'yung sinasabi ng mga tao," the actor said.
As of this posting, the two will star opposite each other in the upcoming Viva Films movie "My Trophy Wife."
Jennylyn Mercado and Luis Manzano
They trained together, tried scuba diving, traveled abroad and shared numerous non-work-related activities together, but all these did not stop the collapse of the two-year romance between Kapuso actress Jennylyn Mercado and television host Luis Manzano.
Since the beginning of their relationship, the two were constantly rumored to have parted ways for several reasons. Some said there's third party involved in the relationship, while others said they lack time for each other.
Time and time again, Luis denied all these issues until recently when their separation hit headlines.
Darla Sauler, "Kris TV" head writer and friends to numerous stars, disclosed on his blog that Luis personally confirmed the break-up to him.
Although the ABS-CBN host remained mum on their separation, Jennylyn shared in a "Startalk" interview that she's moving forward from the split.
She denied there's third party involved and clarified she's not back together with former flame, Dennis Trillo.
"Kung may mga naririnig kayo na hindi magaganda, kilala naman n'yo ako at alam ko na alam ninyo na hindi ko gagawin 'yung mga naririnig na negativity na 'yan," Jennylyn said.
The actress added, "Kahit kailan hindi ako na-link sa kahit kanino (habang) nasa relasyon ako at never naging issue 'yan sa amin ni Luis."
As of this posting, Luis is yet to speak on the matter.
Angel Locsin and Phil Younghusband
Days after Luis and Jennylyn's break-up, actress Angel Locsin confirmed that she also ended her two-year romance with footballer boyfriend Phil Younghusband.
The two started going out when the sportsman asked the actress on a date through his Twitter account.
Angel initially declined the invitation because of prior showbiz commitments, but told the athlete they could go out some other time.
Since then, the two were always spotted in showbiz gatherings. Angel also made sure to attend big football matches of Phil.
But many were surprised when in early October, a rumor about their supposed break-up circulated in showbiz grapevine. After much speculation, Angel announced on Twitter that they indeed broke up.
"Sa lahat po ng nagtatanong kung totoo bang hiwalay na kami ni Phil, totoo po. Sana po maintindihan n'yo kung hindi na po namin sasabihin ang dahilan," Angel wrote.
She added, "Pasensya na po kung hindi po kami makasagot agad tungkol sa status ng aming relasyon. Lalung-lalo na po sa mga sumuporta sa aming dalawa. Hindi po namin kayo binalewala."
In a separate interview with Angel, the actress said lack of time for each other is one contributing factor to the demise of their relationship. She said they remain good friends and she's moving on from Phil.
Angel also clarified that she's not back with ex-boyfriend Luis and their break-ups just coincides with each other.
Sunshine Cruz and Cesar Montano
The entertainment industry was also shattered when Sunshine Cruz and husband of 13 years, actor Cesar Montano, called it quits.
The spat between the couple started when Sunshine discovered that some of her gifts to Montano were given to starlet Krista Miller, who posted photos of the personal items on her Instagram page. The actress then claimed her husband had extramarital affair with Miller since January 2013.
Sunshine left their marital house in February, but the rift between the couple did not end there.
In August, the "Dugong Buhay" actress filed raps against Cesar at the Quezon City Trial Court after he failed to share custody of their three children -- Angelina Isabelle, 11; Samantha Angelene, 8; and Angel Franchesca, 7.
The actress also claimed Montano "violently attacked, employed physical violence and raped" her during Mother's Day.
Although they are now in speaking terms, the Kapamilya actress is still keen to annul her marriage to Cesar.
Sunshine said there's no chance for them to reconcile after what she's been through with the actor. But she hopes that in time, they'll learn to be friends for the sake of their kids.
"I'm closing my door sa pagbabalikan pero in time, sana maging friends pa rin kami para na lang din sa mga anak namin kasi kahit papaano, meron naman kaming pinagsamahan na maganda. I'm praying that totally, 100 percent, na ma-heal at mapatawad ko siya," she said.
Ai-Ai delas Alas and Jed Salang
Finally, one of the biggest showbiz heartbreaks this year is the separation of Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas from husband of one-month, Jed Salang.
After one year of dating, Ai-ai and businessman Salang decided to tie the knot in a simple ceremony at Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada last April 3.
The event was attended by Ai-Ai's three children and ex-partner Miguel Vera.
Things seemed to go smoothly between the newlyweds once they got back to Manila. But exactly one month after the wedding ceremony in the States, Ai-Ai confirmed that she's leaving Jed for good.
In an exclusive interview with King of Talk Boy Abunda on "The Buzz," an emotional Ai-Ai faced and answered all the questions of the viewing public.
The comedienne disclosed she left their home last May 2 after Salang allegedly physically assaulted her.
Ai-Ai explained that while planning their first month anniversary, Jed articulated his desire to celebrate the occasion in a hotel-casino. She refused with the latter's plan as she's keen not to be seen in any gambling establishment.
The Kapamilya actress said this was the time Jed started to physically hurt her.
"Hinahagis ako sa kama, sampalan, bunuan. 'Yung time na hinila niya ako sa sahig at kinaladkad niya ako, doon ko na-realize na hindi ko na ito kaya," said the comedienne.
She also said that there is a third party in their marriage. Ai-Ai said a close friend of Jed reported this to her even before their wedding in Las Vegas.
Ai-Ai said she pushed through with the wedding because she's been dreaming of her own happy ending and to have someone whom she could grow old with.
She said, "Mahal ko si Jed. Akala ko siya na. Dream ko na magkaroon ng asawa, akala ko siya 'yung bigay sa akin. Tao lang ako na nagkakamali at hindi ko alam na magiging ganiyan ang buhay ko."
"'Yung buhay ko parang isang panaginip na masama, tapos nagising ako na totoong buhay pala yung nangyari sa akin," she said.
