GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon is not related to Deniece Millinette Cornejo, the 22-year-old model who cried rape against television host Vhong Navarro, the network said in a statement.
In an exclusive interview in "Buzz ng Bayan" on Sunday, a bruised and beaten Navarro faced the public and shared his account on the January 22 incident at a condominium unit at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.
The "It's Showtime" host identified Cornejo as a "friend" whom he visited in the said condo and a certain Cedric Lee, who came later and was accompanied by a few men, as the guy who mauled him.
Minutes after the said revelation of Navarro, photos of Cornejo surfaced in the Internet, one of which is a picture taken last September 8, 2013 with Gozon.
Cornejo wrote, "With lolo Felipe Gozon Ceo of GMA 7 it was so nice to hear that they want me to be one of their princess (sic)."
But GMA-7 said that Gozon is not connected to Cornejo.
"This is to clarify that the complainant involved in the Vhong Navarro incident is not related to GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon," the broadcast network said in a statement.
GMA Network also clarified that the moment its news division learned Navarro's story, they immediately contacted the actor's manager, Chito Roño, and informed him about the official statement.
It said that the news story aired by the station in relation to the mauling incident was based on a blotter report filed at the Southern Police District.
"The report about the alleged attempted rape was based on the blotter filed at the Investigative Section of the Southern Police District where Vhong Navarro was taken after the incident. Other news organizations also reported it," it added.
Navarro earlier said that he will press charges against Lee and his cohorts. (Sunnex)
