Monday, January 27, 2014
COMEDIAN Vhong Navarro is keen to file charges against the group of men who mauled him at a Taguig City condominium last January 22.
In a "StarTalk" interview, Navarro's lawyer Alma Mallonga said the legal process has already started and her client is prepared to do what is necessary to attain justice.
"Nagkakaroon na ng investigation dito. At the proper time, the complaint will be filed. There are government entities involved here, including the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation), the police authorities. We are gathering the necessary evidence, they are being documented, they are being preserved," Mallonga said.
Model Deniece Millinette Cornejo, 22, reported to police that the actor attempted to rape her in her condo unit at the Bonifacio Global City.
Mallonga denied the allegation and maintained that Navarro is innocent and is the real "victim" in the incident. She stressed that Navarro is "not a rapist."
"Nagpa-screen kami ng statement today. It is because of that particular news item na meron daw police blotter na lumabas, na may paratang raw o accusation ng attempted rape against Vhong," she said.
The lawyer added, "Gusto lang naming liwanagin na si Vhong ay isang biktima sa kasong ito. He is not a rapist. Maaaring hindi siya santo, pero siya ay isang mabuti ring tao ay definitely, hindi siya kriminal... siya ay biktima."
Mallonga also said that the actor was tortured, blackmailed, was being extorted, and was threatened not to speak on the matter.
"We are very confident na napakalakas ng kaso ni Vhong at ang priority namin ngayon is that he should fully recover in the meantime," she said.
Mallonga also confirmed that they already have leads on a certain Cedric Lee, whom Navarro tagged as the leader of group who beat him.
"Iyon ang tao na nanakit sa kaniya, kasama sa nanutok ng baril sa kaniya, gumawa ng kababuyan kay Vhong, and he has said it. Hindi niya alam kung bakit. We do not know the exact story kung ano ang motivation, but ito’y ginawa kay Vhong," said Mallonga.
Lee is reportedly an ex-boyfriend of singer/actress Vina Morales.
Meanwhile, Bianca Lapus, ex-wife of the comedian, said that the "It's Showtime" host is still under observation and was initially scheduled for surgery on Monday.
Bianca, who is four months pregnant, said she is still in shock with what had happened to Vhong.
"He draws strength from his family, friends, and supporters but especially Bruno and Yce (his sons)," Bianca said in a text message aired on "Umagang Kay Ganda" on Monday.
She continued that it's a difficult situation for the whole family as the boys are kept in a safe place to ensure their security.
"Siyempre at the end of the day pamilya pa rin kami naging asawa ko 'yun, kaibigan ko pa rin siya at mahal ko pa rin. And the agony of not knowing where your son is because he needs to be kept in a safe place with security is really hard," Bianca said.
"I told his family, the kids and his girlfriend, sa pagsubok na ito we are one family. We will draw strength from each other. Through prayers, malalagpasan din namin ito," she ended. (Sunnex)
