HE IS regarded for his body of work in show business, but unknown to many, Coco Martin is as passionate and driven in story development as he was when in front of the camera.

In a recent interview with the actor, Martin said that when he is offered to do a project, he is usually hands-on and regularly meets with the creative staff to discuss not only the plotline, but also the complexities of each character.

Take "Ikaw Lamang," his upcoming primetime series with Jake Cuenca, Julia Montes and Kim Chiu. Martin said he gives input on the story, the characters and its actors, and even with the feel of the period drama.

"Gusto ko sa lahat ng proyekto na ginagawa ko, involved ako para kabisado ko yung kwento and character na ginagampanan ko. Minsan kahit pahinga ko na nga, uma-attend pa ako ng creative meeting para kahit papaano may maibigay akong input," he said.

The actor added that he is keen to provide quality programs to the viewers, saying that they deserve only the best when it comes to entertainment.

"Yung responsibilidad namin ay para sa manonood. Kahit bumibigay na yung katawan namin, pero dahil kailangan namin ito at kailangan meron kaming maipalabas, may tungkulin kaming ginagampanan, kahit gaanong hirap, gingawa namin para mapaligaya ang manonood."

Aside from "Ikaw Lamang," Martin is doing two movies, one with Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo and the other is with Superstar Nora Aunor entitled "Padre de Familia."

Under the direction of Adolfo Alix Jr., Martin ventures as co-producer in the Aunor-starrer.

"Yung movie na ito kay Ate Guy (Aunor), konsepto ko talaga yun and matagal ko na siyang gustong makatrabaho," he said.

When asked if we will see him not only produce or star in a movie or TV series, but also direct one, the actor replied: "Sana, someday, 'pag nabigyan na ako ng oras. Pangarap ko talaga yun."

With his work ethics and brilliance on-screen, it was no surprise that ABS-CBN named him the network's "Teleserye King."

Martin considers the tag this is the fruit of his labor said with what he'd been through and his more than a decade stay in the business.

"Nakaka-pressure kasi nagbunga na din yung paghihirap namin. Nakakataba ng puso na mabigyan ka ng isang karangalan at pangalan sa industriyang ito. Siguro yun na yung kabayaran din sa lahat ng mga paghihirap na dinanas ko."

Although he relishes a successful career, Coco doesn't want to get distracted from the real reason why he's continuously pushing show after show, and that is to provide quality programming to the Filipino audience.

"Honestly, more than sa career, mas naka-focus ako sa konsepto na ginagawa ko. Sa maibibigay ko sa manonood. Dun ako nage-enjoy. Nakakatakot kasi na pag career yung tinitingnan mo may comparison, competition and may issue. Pag sa project ka naka-focus, feeling ko mas nag-grow ako doon, mas mapapaganda yung trabaho ko," he said.

"Ikaw Lamang" begins March 10 on the Kapamilya Network. (Sunnex)
