QUEEN of All Media Kris Aquino became emotional during her reunion with ex-husband, basketball star James Yap, for their son's birthday.

The meeting took place during the advanced 7th birthday party of the couple's only son James. Jr., also known as Bimby.

In an episode of "Aquino & Abunda Tonight," the television host shared a short video interview with Yap where she apologized for the past hurt and thanked the cager for exerting effort to be there for their son.

"I want to say thank you to you because hindi ka sumuko. Ang ibang mga lalaki, puwedeng-puwedeng sumuko na at sabihin na, 'Bahala na kayo sa buhay niyo dahil ayoko na rin ng gulo.' Pero hindi ka rin bumitaw kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa 'yo," Aquino said.

Aside from being a father to Bimby, Aquino also thanked James for accepting his eldest son, Joshua. She cried upon seeing a photo of her ex-husband and Josh taken during the early days of their marriage.

In the said photograph, James was carrying a younger and much bigger Josh, a far cry from the present leaner teenager.

"You stepped up for Josh naman. Na hindi naging madali, pero naging mabuti ka sa someone na hindi mo naman kadugo and never mo siyang trinato na iba sa 'yo. And pati yung family mo, they were always good to my son," she said.

Aquino also realized that for almost a decade of love and heartaches with Yap, she felt hatred for the longest time and forgot to say "thank you" for the good things her marriage brought to her life.

She said Yap gave her the most precious gift she could have ask for, and that is Bimby.

"Bimb is my best friend. He's only turning seven, but he's my strength. Siya yung katulong ko sa pagpapalaki kay Kuya (Josh). Siya yung nagbibigay lakas sa akin, siya yung umiintindi sa akin. Sinabi ko kay James na, 'I would never have had this beautiful gift if you were not a part of my life," she said.

"Ang natutunan ko ngayon, tama ka, for the rest of our lives, mamahalin natin ang isa't isa dahil sabay natin binuo ang batang ito. Kung saan man siya (James) pupunta, saan man ako pupunta, kung sino man ang makakasama namin, nandiyan yun. Nagmahalan kami kaya nagka-Bimby," she added.

Yap, on his part, also apologized for the past hurt and thanked his former wife for allowing him in their sons’ lives.

"Sorry din sa iyo kung hindi man ako naging perfect na partner mo. Thank you sa 'yo kasi natanggap mo parin ako ngayon na okay na tayo. Thank you and love, love, love," he said.

In the end, Abunda asked Aquino if he's indeed over with Yap? To which Aquino replied that there were regrets along the way and the basketball star will always have a special place in her heart. But at the same time they are both happy now with their respective personal affairs.

"There's a lot of regret, that's the truth. Maraming panghihinayang. Nagsisi ako na dapat, nung nagpatawad ako, sana nagpatawad ako. But it is what it is and we have moved on," she said.

"Ibinigay ni James Yap sa akin ang isang bagay na no other man gave me. Ibinigay niya yung pangalan niya sa akin. So, nawala man yun, nabura man yun, meron kaming matinding pinagsamahan," she added.

"The fact that, at one point in our lives, we loved each other enough, pero yung if I love him now... He will always have a place in my heart. But I’m at a point already na meron na akong ibang gustong makasama panghabambuhay," Aquino said.

Yap is in a long-term relationship with Italian girlfriend Michaela Cazzola while Kris recently confirmed that she's dating Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista. (Sunnex)
