ACTRESS Kaye Abad admitted that she was hesitant at first to have a romantic affair with Paul Jake Castillo, but now she hopes that the Cebuano television personality is "the one".

In an interview with the Kapamilya actress at the Yahoo! Celebrity Awards press launch on Wednesday, Abad said she met Castillo back in 2010 and they became close when they did "Alyna" the following year.

The 32-year-old actress said that it was only recently that she started to entertain thoughts of them being a couple.

"Sobrang bago lang kasi hindi namin inaakala. Sinasabi ko noon na hindi at imposible kasi very platonic yung relationship namin. Oo, magkasundo kami pero pag-iniisip ko na yung romantic side, parang hindi. Actually nagulat kaming dalawa and kinain ko yung mga sinabi ko na imposibleng maging kami," she said.

Abad described the Pinoy Big Brother former housemate as her "best friend". She added that just like her past relationships, friendship is the foundation of their relationship.

"He's super good talaga. Nakilala ko yung lahat lahat, yung bad side niya. Walang pagkukunwari. Walang nagbago. Kung paano niya ako tratuhin bilang kaibigan noon, gusto ko ganun parin," she added.

"Si Chito (Miranda) din naging kaibigan ko before naging kami. Siguro ang pinagkaiba lang, it was never expected na it's going to happen. Hindi namin in-expect na magiging kami. Hindi ko talaga inakala. Hinahanapan ko pa siya ng date. Eh ayaw niya kasi focus daw siya sa triathlon niya," she added.

On observations that she immediately confirmed her relationship with Paul Jake, unlike her past three-year romance with singer Guji Lorenzana, Kaye said that she and Lorenzana were not yet a couple then when they were interviewed in the media.

She said that people just assumed that they were together.

"When we were asked before, we (Guji and I) were just dating then. People assumed na dine-deny ko lang or showbiz answer. So when we finally got together na, wala ng nagtanong," she said.

The Kapamilya actress also didn't want to make something out of Melissa Ricks', Castillo's ex-girlfriend, statement that she was not at all surprised with the new couple and she already saw this coming.

Abad reiterated that she and Castillo have been "really good friends" before deciding to give romance a chance.

"Honestly, hindi ko nakita na mangyayari. Maybe because we have common friends na sinasabi nila na bakit hindi na lang kayo kasi click naman kayo together. Some people misunderstood also our friendship because hindi sanay na may kaibigan ako na opposite sex," she said.

Abad said she is thankful for their mature and serious relationship.

"Hindi ko naman siya magiging boyfriend if I don't see myself with him. Sa edad kong ito, wala na ako doon sa stage na magboyfriend ay dahil like ko lang siya. Kailangan yung hahanapin ko yung makakasama ko sa buhay."

When asked if the Cebuano TV personality is "the one," Kaye replied: "I don't want to say na he's the one because we don't know what will happen in the future, but I hope so." (Sunnex)
