ACTRESS KC Concepcion is stepping away from her superstar parents' shadows as she is starting to create her own niche in show business.

Many were surprised when the 29-year-old proved that she can also do kontabida roles aside from playing lead characters in television shows.

In 2013 series "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala," the Kapamilya actress breathe life to Alexis Ganzon, a loyal, patient but conniving partner to Sam Milby and rival to Judy Ann Santos' character.

After the said ABS-CBN series, she was featured in Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill" opposite ER Ejercito, which earned KC best actress trophies at the 30th PMPC Star Awards for Movies and 62nd Famas Awards.

KC said she's happy that people get to see what she can offer in the business.

"Sa dinamidami na din naman ng risk na tinake ko sa mga roles, happy ako na finally na-welcome na ako sa industry na ito hindi bilang anak ng parents ko, kundi dahil dun sa maibibigay ko," she said.

According to the actress, her mother, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, is proud that she gets to do off-beat roles.

"Happy ang mommy ko na nag sign ako ulit with ABS-CBN. Happy din siya na nata-tackle ko yung mga roles na hindi pangkaraniwan sa aming mga girls. Nagugustuhan niya na willing akong mag take on ng mga roles na kakaiba," KC said.

Right now, KC is part of the continuation of primetime series "Ikaw Lamang" starring Kim Chiu and Coco Martin.

The actress, who took acting workshops in New York before accepting this new project, said she's happy to work with the likes of Kim and Coco because it poses a new challenge for her.

"Napakalaking opportunity na pumasok sa isang teleserye na number one sa primetime. And kahit papaano, alam ko na meron akong bibigay sa kwento," she said.

She breathes life to Natalia Hidalgo, the first daughter of Kim and Jake Cuenca's older characters.

"I'm happy to play this kind of role, yung character, it's not totally good and not totally bad. It's interesting to play around with. This is the kind of role I really want to do. It's very different and something new again for the audience," she said.

KC is thrilled to be working with Coco. She said there’s truth to all good things she heard from the latter’s co-actors.

"Wala talaga akong masabi. I respect him so much. Sobrang bait and totoong tao. Hindi siya titigil hanggang hindi maganda yung scene. Sobrang team player siya and hindi mo mararamdaman na siya yung bida," KC said.

She is also looking forward to her first scene with Kim.

“Ikaw Lamang” airs weekdays on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida. (Sunnex)
