SEASONED actress Nora Aunor met Saturday Chinese superstar Jackie Chan at the 2015 Asean International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Aunor received the Lifetime Achievement Award while Chan was handed the Asian Inspiration Award.
In her acceptance speech, Aunor wished for more Southeast Asian films to gain recognition in other parts of the world.
"More awards. More films. More and more support coming from each government. Films that value the society, films that raise social awareness and concerns and films that still excite us to be inside the darkness of movie theaters," she said.
Meanwhile, Cherie Gil took home her first international acting trophy for independent movie "Sonata."
Gil won Best Actress, besting other Filipina contenders Vivian Velez ("Bendor"), Barbara Miguel ("Nuwebe") and Krystle Valentino ("Purok 7").
Indonesian actress Prisia Nasution was also nominated in the same category for the movie "Sekola Rimba."
Cherie, through her Facebook account, thanked everyone and dedicated her award to brother, the late actor Mark Gil.
Aside from Gil, filmmakers Joseph Israel Laban and Benjamin Tolentino won Best Director and Best Editor for "Nuwebe" and "Bendor," respectively.
AIFFA promotes the culture, tradition and heritage of member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations through the language of film. (Sunnex)
