AI-AI delas Alas bagged the top acting trophy at the 7th Queens World Film Festival in New York City.
The comedienne won the Best Female Actor trophy in the narrative feature category for Louie Ignacio's 2016 film "Area."
Delas Alas, who failed to personally attend the ceremony held Sunday night (US time) in New York City, said that it was a big surprise for her to win the award.
"Pagkagising ko at sinabi ni Gerald natulala ako sabay iyak, sabay luhod at umiyak sa pasasalamat at nanginginig pa katawan ko (buti wala ako sa NYC kasi baka mahimatay ako at di ko din makuha ang award hahaha comedy talaga)," she wrote in an Instagram post on Monday.
Delas Alas competed against German actors Karin Hanczewsk ("Lotte") and Dorothea Hagena ("Mann Im Spagat: Pace, Cowboy, Pace") and American actress Amy Redford in "Hate Crime."
Her trophy was received by Ignacio during the award ceremony.
The Kapuso star then went on to thank everyone who made the film possible.
She also mentioned her children and partner Gerald Sibayan, whom she said are her inspiration to work hard and give her best.
"Sa lahat ng mga nagmamahal at nagdasal para sa akin, maraming maraming salamat po," she said.
"Area" is a film about an aging woman who tries to break away from a life of prostitution in Angeles, Pampanga. The movie also stars Sue Prado and Allen Dizon.
